Medicinal gases
Medicinal gases are gases that have a direct effect on the healing or prevention of human diseases. The medical gas is used in the body to achieve a pharmacological, immunological or metabolic effect in therapy or to make a medical diagnosis.
The places of use can include clinics or homecare applications; application scenarios include emergency medicine, diagnostics, ventilation, anesthesia and therapy.
Medical device
When medical gases are referred to as a medical device, this refers to applications in which - unlike gas as a drug - no pharmacological effect is desired.
Instead, the medical gas is used as a surgically invasive aid or as a tool, such as in minimally invasive surgery or cryosurgery. Among other things, gases are used as a medical device to expand body cavities or to freeze tissue that is to be removed.
They can be used in clinics or homecare applications, for example. Application scenarios include endoscopy, cryotherapy and the cooling of removed organs or tissue samples to be examined.
